There are many great attractions available year-round on the American side of Niagara Falls. Visit our marketplace page to view and purchase all of the available attractions during your visit.

NOTE: Outside of the tourist season (May-October) it is highly recommended that you rent a car or drive to Niagara Falls, NY for best results. Services such as Discover Niagara Shuttle are not a year-round service and our NFTA bus routes do not service all of our attraction areas.

  • Why is the attraction called the Cave of the Winds if there isn’t an actual cave?

The Cave of the Winds name comes from a natural cave that once existed on the U.S. side behind the Bridal Veil Falls at Niagara Falls. This actual cave was some 130 feet high, 100 feet wide and 30 feet in depth. It was discovered in 1834, and originally dubbed Aeolus's Cave, after the Greek god of winds. Guided tours began officially in 1841, through Goat Island and descending down the Biddle Staircase closer to the falls, into the cave. A rock fall closed the tour in 1920. It officially reopened in 1924, bringing visitors to the front of the Bridal Veil Falls instead of behind it, on a series of decks and walkways, as it operates today. The cave was obliterated in a massive 1954 rockfall and subsequent dynamiting of a dangerous overhang. Scarring on the gorge wall from the dynamite can also still be seen today.

  • How does the Cave of the Winds attraction operate today?

In 2018, a complete renovation of the upper portion of the attraction added the “World Changed Here Pavilion” with hands-on exhibitory and interactive displays that share the history of the State Park and its surrounding areas. A new movie sharing the history and steps it took to innovate as the first State Park in the United States as well as how industry impacted the Niagara Region was also added to give more context beyond just the amazing views. Once the movie concludes, guests are given a plastic poncho (May-October) and directed across a pathway to the elevator which descends within the Gorge wall to the lower portion of the attraction.

At the base of the elevator, guests follow a Cave-like area continuing outside along the Gorge Walk - a natural pathway that exists along the lower Gorge wall – where guests can find themselves at the base of the waterfalls year-round. During the warmer months (May through October), red wooden decks and stairs are assembled out from this pathway in front of the Bridal Veil Falls bringing guests much closer to the falling water. Guests may get soaked as they can ascend to the “Hurricane Deck” which is approx. 20 feet from the actual waterfall where tropical storm-like conditions can be experienced, as winds can reach up to 68 mph (109 km/h) at its closest point to the falls.

During the November through April months, this is a dry experience as the decks and stairs are removed for safety purposes. Ice builds up during the winter in front of the American and Bridal Veil Falls -sometimes as high as the waterfalls themselves! Some of the most amazing photos can be taken while the decks and stairs are not assembled. It is becoming quite common now to have photos taken on the Gorge Walk for holiday cards!
